…he will give a crown of beauty for ashes… Isaiah 61:3

As we become more conscious of the effects we are having on our environment we start looking for ways to minimize our carbon footprint. Finding lucrative ways to be creative in all things including, FASHION!

One of the catalyst that is hitting up the scene with it’s dynamic approach to the Runway and it’s many adoring fans is Redress Raleigh!

Based in North Carolina Redress Raleigh is known throughout the Triangle, NC for hosting the premiere eco-fashion show of the region. Starting with their 1st show in March 2009, the annual Spring show highlights innovative, accessible, and wearable responsibly-made fashion.

As a designer I was honored to be part of Redress Raleigh Fall Expo & Fashion Runway special of Eco-Conscious Designs. I had created and designed handbags along with matching scarves hitting the catwalk with a flare and passion for GOD.

God is incredibly Faithful and when you are called to do something GOD surely provides. This may be my first steps into fashion but it’s surely guided by the grace of God.

 photo _DSC5108copy_zps9363191c.jpeg

I’ve never really considered the impact the fashion world has on what I wear, nor the impact that my own clothing makes. Until I myself stumbled across this new world.

Sustainability is definitely becoming a new way for artists and innovative designers to express themselves giving mainstream Fashion a run for their wallets.

 photo _DSC5262copy_zpsde8c05a4.jpeg

It’s not only now hip to wear a local designer, made in the USA or sustainability friendly, it’s a necessity, as our world plummets with unethical ways of creating garments. (I mean have you seen the sweat shops in these other countries?)

Next time you buy those new pair of shoes, or that extravagant top. Ask yourself, what impact are you making? What message do you want to say with who you choose to wear.

Choose wisely, Choose local.

For His Love & Glory,

Top 5 Fab Fabrics of the week! Eco?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17

 photo DSCF1233_zpsed2d45e3.jpg

Hallelujah Praise GOD thank you JESUS!!!

God is so amazing and I just want to say that He surely makes old things New! These fabrics are a representation on how God can transform us and create something new within us. photo 2012-07-14140238_zps38a11078.jpg He takes what we once were. With our problems, mindset and troubles, renewing us in a way that we can only describe as the grace of GOD. I’ve never been more alive than now and I’m thankful.

 photo DSCF0786_zps8dcdcaef.jpg

A prayer that I say when going through difficult times or when I’ve made a mistake is “Lord, some how make my wrongs right.” Basically, I don’t want the mistake to be in vain, I want God to take those mistakes, those “ashes” and make something new from them. So I let go and I give it to Jesus.

 photo DSCF0785_zps8965a588.jpg

These fabrics are from my fall collection. I’ve been working on this collection for a while now. I’ve learned so much through the making and piecing and how GOD knows the final result.

 photo IMG_5375_zpsa83ac476.jpg

Sometimes we can’t see past our circumstances. Past our mistakes. I’ve noticed when creating this collection, through my mistakes, if I remained calm, not giving in to the temptation of worrying about the mistake I made and the effect it has done. Just letting go and allow GOD to guide me. I usually am guided into making something a lot more beautiful and creative than I originally had planned!

 photo IMG_5453_zps7f05c261.jpg

I choose this picture as the 5th fabric because it’s the finish result of my collection all mixed together. We may not see how God is transforming us. Sometimes we can’t see the Good in certain situations that are hurtful, stressful and can really shake our faith.

During some of these times we even make mistakes and wonder, “have a fallen out of God’s will?

The truth is you can not ever fall out of God’s will. It says in the bible,

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:28

When we dedicate our life to Jesus, when we give our hearts to Christ right then and there the heavens are rejoicing and your name was transformed to the book of life. Many times we make mistakes, even during our walk with GOD. These are often called “sin” meaning “missing the mark” but one thing we can stand firm on, is that “sin” no longer has a hold of us. We are free from it. Condemnation does not come form GOD. Conviction does. Conviction is an acknowledgement that you have done something wrong and it is needed for us to see the truth.

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

Condemnation is actually remaining in that sin. Not allowing God’s grace to work and transform you.

We all have burdens to bear in this life. The bible refers to it as a yoke. A yoke was actually used back in the day when they would use an animal to plow the ground. To make way for the seeds to grow the harvest. This plowing was a heavy load, a burden, on the necks of these animals.

Jesus has taken your yoke.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29

And He’s given you His in exchange for yours.

Rest in the thought that GOD loves you and you don’t surprise Him. He didn’t wash away your past sins, He washed it all away. You are RIGHT with GOD. Don’t ever forget. ♥

Until Next time!

GUEST POST: Thanksgiving: Thornton Style and Live From Chicago!

Today’s Guest Post is from Kendra! Just a lil bit about her!

She contacted me a few weeks back and thought you would all enjoy a thanksgiving special. You can follow her over on Twitter:

– I was the former Director of Communications at Orbitz
– I am now a full time mom of three great kids
– I love to travel and spend time with my family being active!

It is that time of year again. Everywhere I look I see gorgeous colored leaves in tones of gold, orange, and warm browns falling from the trees, and each evening there is chilliness in the air that reminds me of warm fires and snuggly blankets. Calls and emails are flowing back and forth between family members and me as we firm up plans for the upcoming holiday season! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of year because it is a time to celebrate giving back to others and your community, while taking the time to be thankful for all the blessings I have in my life. To add to the excitement, this year the Thornton family is hosting the holidays for all of our relatives right here in Chicago! This makes the holiday even more special!

My kids love to help me in the kitchen, so I have been searching through the pages of Pinterest for tasty appetizer and fun desserts that we can make together. Each year, my kids get a little older and they become more and more interested in working with mom in the kitchen. The only downside is that the more complicated the recipe the larger the mess we make in the kitchen. I have learned the simpler the better when it comes to cooking with kids in the kitchen. However, we do not sacrifice taste or cuteness for simplicity. The goal is to find great treats that are fast and fun to make!

I have yet to find anything to take the place of a delectable, traditional Thanksgiving meal. There are certain dishes that are staple items for the day, such as mashed potatoes and gravy (my personal favorite), stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Of course, the turkey is the ultimate staple item on my table each Thanksgiving. With family coming this year, I have decided to try a couple of new recipes that could become old favorites. In my former life I accrued a lot of travel experience, so I am always reading about up on travel news. I found an exciting article detailing exciting menu items that luxury hotels will be serving to their guests this Thanksgiving!

Armed with some fabulous ideas from the article I decided this was the year to try a new spin on old favorites. I am a little nervous and hopeful that my family will enjoy the new selections, but isn’t Thanksgiving the perfect time to try something new and adventurous? The Waldorf Astoria in Orlando is serving up an exciting velvety pumpkin soup with lobster this Thanksgiving for their guests. What a great way to start a holiday meal! This is my first must try recipe, because there is nothing like soup to warm you body, heart, and soul!

I have so many things to be thankful for in my life. Here at the Thornton home, we go around the table and let each family member tells us one thing that they are grateful for. Maybe this year our family tradition can become your family tradition. My hope is that each of you has an amazing and safe holiday filled with love and family, including scrumptious food and new memories!

God & the City… 3 year Anniversary!

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8

photo DSCF1609_zps1dc7ed57.jpgWe celebrated our 3 year Anniversary along with Emanuel at a restaurant that my hubby says has the best plantains  I love me some platanos 😀

Last week the hubby, our baby boy and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary in being married and fully dedicating our lives to Jesus.

It’s been incredible and I wouldn’t change anything for the world.

What we learned so far is that GOD is crazy, crazy faithful that is. hehe.

I’m learning more and more that God’s WORD is the real deal.

 photo DSCF1608_zps41c357e5.jpg

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19

 photo DSCF1607_zpsc980dba5.jpg
I’ve also learned that God truly supplies, He truly sustains and He truly loves us! Amen.

 photo DSCF1600_zps1d9d911e.jpg

I remember when we were at a point that it was difficult to pay the rent, living from paycheck to paycheck and nothing in the savings. Bad credit, bills to pay, car problems, trouble, no car and there was a point we almost got evicted from our apartment back when we first started living together.

I know it says God gives double for your trouble. But honestly, I feel like He gives more than double

Once we decided to truly dedicate our lives to Christ all that changed and we are giving more than we ever did! With just about the same income we had!! Our rent has increased, we have a new bundle of joy ( I love you Emanuel!), 2 cars that are paid for and currently getting our credit straight. We have money in the savings and some to splurge. Not to mentioned dreams we thought were dead, we are now pursuing with a passion and by the grace of God.

We constantly declare God’s word in our lives.

Thank you JESUS!

 photo DSCF1597_zps62d2eb3b.jpg

Our own family give us gripes about our beliefs at times. But no one, nor nothing nor any situation can tear us from GOD. In fact at times situations/problems and even good times draw us closer to Him. Because we know we can’t do anything without Jesus and every good gift is from GOD. We have seen it in our lives. Another reason why we boldly proclaim the Good News.

On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:17

We’ve seen and tasted that the Lord is good. We are so incredibly thankful and grateful for God saving us both. You see, we both were living reckless lives. Not really caring about the consequences or those around us.

We have definitely matured and have come a long way from who we were to who we are. We are humbled every day and know that we are not better than anyone and we truly are blessed to be where we are.

I’m incredibly blessed to have Jesus in my life, a husband who wants to be faithful to his wife, to do the right thing and love me, and his family the right way. Not because he loves me but because he loves GOD with all His heart.
 photo DSCF1596_zps5e7cae57.jpg

We’ve gone through ups and downs as anyone. But when Jesus is your intercessor, everything just falls into place.

I know I am nothing without GOD. I ask GOD daily to Help me Love my Husband, my Baby Boy and my Family. Asking help and guidance daily for my business, my calling, my ministry. I’m not a perfect person, not in the slightest and I fail Him daily.

But I truly believe and have seen God’s grace. How He protects us, Loves us and blesses us despite our failures. I’m totally, madly in love with Jesus. I pray that HE will always be my CORE, my center, my everything in Jesus name!

 photo DSCF1602_zps60ea12b5.jpg

I hope and pray that Jesus will forever be in the center of your Hearts, Minds, Children, Relationships and all that you do.

If He is not, I pray that God reveals the truth to you. ♥

Thank you everyone for your prayers. Thank you everyone for reading, supporting and believing.

We know greater things are yet to come. Be blessed today.

Always remember that you don’t lose anything by following Christ other than sin. Because once you believe, it is by grace you are saved and sin no longer has a stronghold on you. AMEN!

Until Next Time! Ciao!!

Hosanna in the Highest!!!

For His Love & Glory,

PEP Talk! Have Faith!!

When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Mark 5:27-28

 photo f1a28e08-0de1-4dda-8d2e-086743ac95ce_zps65243ded.jpg

In life we have two choices. We either allow the situation to guide the course of our lives or we get up with Christ and call ourselves Blessed. Allow yourself to lift up the shield of faith. The woman who touched the garment of Jesus didn’t get healed because she touched His garment, she was healed because she was obedient in searching for Jesus. She had FAITH that Jesus could heal her. In life we constantly make a daily decision on where we put our faith. We can either put our faith in what we see or we can put our Faith and trust on Jesus. The choice is yours and yours alone.

Until Next time! Ciao!

Hosanna in the Highest!!!
