Top 5 Fab Fabrics of the Week! Handmade.

The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. Deuteronomy 28:1

What comes to mind when you think of handmade? One of the things that we as a fast paced, super-size me, made in “china” society has lost, is the simplistic and original content that only comes from something truly made from the heart.

Hand made people! It’s the new trend or so it should be! Seriously! As a handmade maker of all things beautiful ehem. hehe. I shall say that I’m an advocate of locally made. I never was like this. I didn’t understand the value lost in overseas transactions and factories called “sweatshops” that cater to big corps and such. I’m paraphrasing.

But I to fall victim to outsourcing materials. I admit it. But you know what going green doesn’t happen over night and neither does getting educated on where your garments are massed produced. One of my goals as a designer, maker of bags and lovely things is to source high quality materials from here in the states, keeping the economy boosted and usually when things are made here in the States or are local it’s made from an entrepreneur or small business and I for one want to support small businesses in my country. I was born in this country and so is my son. Although I do have a rich Dominican Heritage which I am proud of, I live here in the U.S.

 photo il_570xN411925597_aryc_zps47833da9.jpg

My mom says that the American dream has died. I for one know that with GOD all things are possible. I’m not saying to not buy from overseas, because I would buy from a small business over seas or a Big Eco-Conscious company in a heart beat vs. a Big manufacturer overseas who doesn’t care about their employees and harms the environment.

But I have to educate myself on what is the process that these items/materials/products are made with in order to make a difference in my purchasing decisions.

 photo il_570xN184642778_zps14c410c0.jpg

Are they overstaffed and underpaid? Or are they trying to enrich the community of artisans around them? I guess you can say I’m biased. I am a local designer, I’m a hand-maker of my products. But I have a vision to keep it Handmade, good quality, sustainable goods no matter how big or small I am.

 photo bird_zps92d7c558.jpg

As I become more infused with handmade, local, eco – conscious designs. I start becoming more educated on my environment and surroundings. I LOVE that GOD has given me this opportunity to be a sustainable, eco-conscious designer. I feel so honored to partake in such an awesome adventure and I can’t wait to share with you all and the world.

Because what I do here can be done anywhere. You may live in another country, you may have a dream of becoming a business owner or developing your talents and I say, “GO FOR IT”. Learn about your environment get infused with the rich culture and the people you can bless around you right where you are.

Because once we discredit those around us, follow the “hype” we become lost in the buzz and follow without knowing exactly what we are following or supporting. Where is your shirt from, that you’re wearing. what was the process of those earrings/bracelet?

I’ve met so many business owners, artisans, craftsmen and believers in sustainability that these people are like a family. They actually care about their environment and support one another. Once you start becoming more educated on what you put on you, you also start becoming more educated on what you ingest. Usually the handmade society is tied in with the organic, farmers market group. Because when you support local businesses you also support your local farmers, shakers and makers. ♥

What we purchase speaks more about us, then we like to think.

In effect, when we become conscious on how companies treat their employees & environment and not how much more or less an item is then we can change the economy and our way of living for the best. It’s about doing what’s right, not whats easy or convenient. That’s my take on handmade, what’s yours?

Until Next Time! Ciao!

Making educated decisions! ♥ Thank you Jesus! Allow God to also guide you. Be Blessed. Get to know your community there are rich resources around you.

God & the City…My Birthday!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Galatians 5:22

 photo DSCF1789_zpse8000211.jpg

Celebrate and have a good time, Amen!

Yes it’s my birthday! Thank you Jesus for another year, for my beautiful amazing Son, Husband and Family! I’m just so incredibly thankful and incredibly amazed at the Goodness of GOD.

It snowed last night which brought forth an amazing Snow day! The hubby and I get to snuggle in today :). Well it being my birthday and the fact of it Snowing, it reminds me of this same day just a few years ago when I was going through a difficult time, I was going through a break up (from my current hubby and our story is a testimony of God’s grace and when something is meant to be) One thing that had always touched my heart is my lovely mom telling me as it was snowing, “the angels are blessing you on your birthday.” So I receive it today also! HALLELUJAH!

Last month, a couple of days before Christmas, my family lost a loved one. My beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Grandma, Fidelina Cabral. I really didn’t know how to write about her passing, I really didn’t know how to even publicize it just because, to me, it was so personal. I loved my Grandma more than anyone can know. I loved her so much, growing up I actually lived with her in the Dominican Republic, I also went to school there, I believe it was 1st grade, but only for a bit. And even though it was only a time, it was wonderful slice of time, it was my perfect time with her that I will never forget, it was simply heavenly.

I remember her allowing me to have a pet, a pet chicken, which I got by way of motorcycle, yes I was adventurous even as a youngster. (They later told me that they made a Sancocho, which is a Dominican version of Chicken soup) I also remember just enjoying my bedtimes with my grandma who taught me how to love myself. She told me, every time I kissed my self I was kissing my heart ♥. It ended up with me kissing my entire left arm for the longest time because it was the one closet to my heart, I was young & free!

I just wanted to be around her. I loved everything about her, the way I would hug her and how she was perfect for hugging. I remember telling my young and naive self that I want to be pleasantly plumped, just like her, when I get old (when you’re young old is like 30) because those are the best hugs. She always looked good and smelled nice. She had a character and a gentleness, that all I wanted to do was know more about her.

Funny, because my father tells me that I favor her in my talents, that she was good at interior design, putting things together and making them beautiful. I know that God at times passes on gifts from our family members.

Today on my birthday I just want to honor my Grandma, a woman who I loved and admired. I love you Abuela. Te amo.

In truth she also inspired me and God really did encourage me as well….In my shop you can see that I have a few pieces of knit ware. I never truly got to learn from her I only had one lesson when I was 15, but it never stopped me to pursue it because for me it’s a piece of her I get to express. I almost gave up in learning one day, it’s not easy getting your instructions from a book, but by the grace of God I can knit!

photo DSCF1757_zpse68976bf.jpg My hubby putting up the cross in our home along with a family picture May Jesus always be in the Center of our hearts and lives.

I’ve learned that we all go through ups and downs, & unfortunately we even confront the darkening abyss of (eerie music plays) death. We all have experienced death in one form or another, whether it is a loss of a friend, or a loved one perhaps a pet or a plant. A grim truth is that one day we all will die.

My grandmother for one, has a rich past and her story is just incredible. I feel as though we all get the choice on how we choose to live this gift called life. We sometimes take things for granted or sometimes to seriously or to harshly. There are somethings that we just have to let go and learn how to bounce back from, things that may break us.

One thing that I love and hold on to that although there is a grim truth, there is also a magnificent truth that just covers you with grace, peace and love and that is JESUS.

 photo DSCF1760_zpsf8d409c6.jpg

The only reason why I’m here, the only reason I am alive and I’m able to do what I do is because of Jesus. I can not do anything without Him and I’m so thankful that you are never alone when you have GOD by your side.

GOD’s word is completely true, there is so much wisdom and power embedded in every scripture, it brings you peace, strength and a knowledge of who you are and who loves you. Jesus.

Coming into this New Year, working on my new website, my new collection and gallery show I have a decision. I can choose my perspective on how I should see this time in my life. I can either allow the impossiblness of it all to over whelm me, or I can rise up with Christ. Don’t get me wrong, I have felt a few times that maybe I have bitten off more than I can chew. Not only am I building the new website, which I feel it in my spirit, by the grace of God, that its going to project me to the next level, which I’m totally excited about; it will be my blog & shop integrated in one domain name which is so AWESOME! (www.lindamendible.com It’s under construction so please me patient) Then I have a Gallery/Bag Show which I am currently preparing for and will be presented in March with a reception, awesome I know. ♥

Let me tell you though, building the bags for my new collection is not as easy as I thought it would be post baby, if you feel me. And I don’t regret not one minute of this struggle, not for a second, to be perfectly honest I know my baby boy is a gift right from GOD and God’s timing is genuinely and incredibly Perfect! My son is such a blessing and I feel as though he just makes me that much more better! Thank you LORD for this time in my life!! Hallelujah! Thank you for it all! ♥

I’m currently just relying on GOD, asking GOD to multiply my hours, to give me the wisdom, discernment, understanding and all the fruits of the spirit to me and my family, because I want to use everything I have for GOD and I want to do it how HE wants me to do it, because that is the vision.

Many times I feel misunderstood, like people just don’t get what I’m doing and yea it can hurt and sometimes I lose but I’m always a winner when I’m in Christ and one thing that He’s told me from the beginning deep deep down in my spirit and just in a beautiful way that I will not ever forget or so help me JESUS, is that no matter what, He’s got my back.

On this Glorious day 🙂 I want you to know, that no matter what difficulty you are going through, no matter what others are or not saying when you have Christ in your heart, honey He gives you everything! HE’s got your back no matter what! Be encouraged to know that what ever you do for the Lord does not go in vain.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36

Pep Talk! Have Faith.

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” Mathew 14:28

 photo 62973a0e-7418-4838-b0c8-47a000554091_zps6d02a2cb.jpg
I didn’t know, that having a child can bring about so many emotions, so many feelings and so many desires and unfortunately fears.

But it’s just like God to soothe and still the turbulent waters with a still small voice.

It’s hard, it’s hard at times to hear God through our own thoughts emotions and fears, which can get jumbled up into a mess that listening is just… so hard.

Sometimes all it takes is, trust. To trust God.

And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. Matthew 8:26

As you go on into this new week be confident that you can trust God in your situation in your storms no matter how raging. You can call out to Jesus and He’ll give you all you need to walk through and on to the impossible.

Just remember in order to hear that still small voice you have to still your own doubts and fears, allowing yourself to trust in the Lord. Not in what you see, nor in what you feel, just trusting in HIS love for you, you will be amazined and surprised on how HE alone can still those waters.

Until Next Time! Ciao!

Morrisville is the first of three Orangetheory Fitness locations planned to open in the Triangle area of North Carolina in the next year. Top 5 Fab Fabrics of the week! Texture.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. Matthew 5:13

 photo il_570xN547183963_36y1_zpsa29c26e6.jpg

I didn’t know before, but now I know, know. We, each and every one of us is going through a battle.

These fabrics yet subtle represent this week’s inspiration, texture. You can say that texture is extremely important in our lives. Whether we love the clean lines and smooth feel of a granite kitchen, or the simplistic style of a butcher block table to the unique textures that come from enjoying a savoring bite of deliciousness. These are all textures, our lives are comprised of textures.

Looking down at my 4 month old son, with his innocent smile and excitement, his little hands outstretched to collide with the world, being enthralled with the new textures, excited to touch the ones that I present him from soft to grainy, all unique all an experience.

 photo cork_zps04e84d0b.jpg

You can say that texture is the salt of our touch. It surrounds us whether we know it or not. We live by touch. I believe fabrics bring an excellent element to our lives in not only sight but touch as well.

 photo Linen_zps9c3d6680.jpg

It’s by the words of our mouths that we can distinguish the texture of our character. Are we soft? Are we coarse or grainy? They bring an experience to each one of us but is it necessarily good?

 photo vintagewool_zps7a67bc49.jpg

These fabrics are each unique, each one of a kind and the underlining thread that draws each one is that they are all eco-conscious.

We all have an opportunity to decide where we want to be and how we want to live.

These fabrics represent a decision that I have been confronted by God. You may be given everything you need, but do you have the right texture? These fabrics represent an opportunity to feel yourself out. To understand where you are in life and what textures do you want to surround yourself with. Have you lost your texture? The right texture?

 photo leather_zps5e199ec2.jpg

We often get distracted by the problems in our lives, and often times more than not, we let time slip us by, taking little time to look into the little things that at first glance seem unimportant but, when taking a deeper look, bring tremendous impact into our lives and the world around us.

So…What is your texture and what are you representing?

Be Blessed.
